How to Change The Oil

The Porsche 911SC uses a dry sump system. Due to this, the oil is located in a separate tank located in the rear passenger wheel arch. To change the oil you have to drain both the engine and the oil tank.

Changing the oil on a 911 is a simple process requiring limited mechanical knowledge and experience. here we have documented a simple step-by-step guide to changing the oil. Follow these steps and you should have no problems..

  1. Get engine warm, we normally run the engine to half operating temperature.
  2. Get a big oil drain pan able to hold at least 12 liter of oil.
  3. Park the car on a flat surface and then safely jack up the rear an put on jack stands.
  4. put big pan under oil tank (passenger side rear wheel well)
  5. loosen drain plug in oil tank and remove plug and drain the oil.
  6. Clean plug. Put plug and new washer back in oil tank and tighten.
  7. locate case drain plug on bottom of engine.
  8. move drain pan under engine case and remove plug and washer. Drain case.
  9. Clean drain plug. Put plug and new washer back in case and tighten.
  10. put paper towels underneath oil filter (rear passenger side of engine bay) and remove oil filter.
  11. wipe small amount of oil around gasket of new oil filter and screw it in place.
  12. clean up oil filter area with paper towels.
  13. drop car off jack stands
  14. add 9.5 liter of new oil
  15. Start car and let it thoroughly warm up. I normally take the car for a short local drive.
